Bio
Gaijin Studios is a group of American comic book artists formed in Atlanta, Georgia. It is one of the longest-running collectives of freelance comic book artists in the United States, having been in continuous operation since 1991. It has long been considered by some in the comics industry to be an influential training ground for some of the more prominent creators of the 1990's and 2000's, most notably Brian Stelfreeze (Batman: Shadow of the Bat, Matador), Adam Hughes (Wonder Woman, Tomb Raider), Cully Hamner (Blue Beetle, Batman: Tenses), Jason Pearson (Legion of Super-Heroes, Body Bags), Dave Johnson (Superman: Red Son, 100 Bullets), Tony Harris (Starman, Ex Machina), Karl Story (Aliens vs. Predator, Batman), and Georges Jeanty (Gambit, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight). Its current roster consists of Stelfreeze, Hamner, and Story, along with its newest members, Tony Shasteen, artist of O.C.T.: Occult Crimes Taskforce, and Doug Wagner, writer of The Ride, both of whom joined in 2007.

At HeroesCon 2008, Gaijin announced their newest member: multiple-award-winning colorist Laura Martin. Laura's long history began with a five-year stint at Wildstorm Productions in La Jolla, CA, where she colored influential fan-favorites The Authority and Planetary, and where she first met Adam Hughes, Cully Hamner, and Brian Stelfreeze. Her career took her to Oldsmar, Florida, where she managed the coloring department at CrossGen Comics. Three years there were quite enough, and Laura left for greener professional pastures, mostly with Marvel and DC Comics. From 2004 to the present, she's worked on many major Marvel titles such as Astonishing X-men, The Ultimates (volume 2), Thor, Civil War: Frontlines, Secret Invasion, and Stephen King's The Stand. At DC, she has graced the pages of Superman/Batman, and continues on with Planetary. At Dark Horse, she colored the first miniseries for Serenity, and at Humanoids, she's worked on I Am Legion and Adam in Chromaland. Laura brings her colors to Cully Hamner's Black Lightning miniseries and Adam Hughes' Wonder Woman series in the very near future.

Laura is also currently working on her own book, Telling Stories With Color. It is slated for release in September 2008 from Virgin Comics. Keep checking this site for updates on pre-ordering, teaser excerpts, and other news on Laura's comings and goings through Gaijin!
